Yup, probably a pretty classic one but struggling to navigate and help would be appreciated.

Nearly 3 YO. have been doing:

  • softly softly, lots of here's the toilet/potty/help us flush / mummy's doing a wee/poo (lovely) for quite a few months.
  • Then oh how exciting new pants, new potty, what a big girl etc. Books, encouragement.
  • Then ok, lets learn to use the potty. took off all bottoms. She withheld wee for 6 hours. Wet herself twice - ok. Point blank refused to sit on potty - outright no, and quite distressed when encouraged.

Next morning woke up subdued / unhappy. Distressed when changing nappy and says it hurts when I wee. This continues all day - spoke to GP as worried it was a wee infection and they said it might be potty training and to ease off.

So we have....but now. Nearly 3 year old not potty trained! Everytime its reasonable we say oh would you like to sit on the potty - encouraging her to just sit on potty with a nappy on / clothes on to get used to it. Point blank refuses and gets upset.

any advice? ( 'm not going to do strip her off, let her wet herself/get upset in the belief she will learn so please don't suggest this approach. and I do have the 'oh crap' book which I have been warned off by people I trust very much. Ive also looked at Eric which hasnt been helpful).

Put nappy/ pull ups back.. she's clearly not ready.Shes not even 3 yet.
Wait a month or so and try again.. she might have forgotten how distressed it made her this time.

I would just wait. My boy turned 3 in June. He started potty training two weeks ago. Literally one day said I need a pee and from that point on he has been dry. Right up until the day before he would poo/pee and if you asked him if he had done it he would deny it.
