Nursery not supportive of potty training

DS was 3 in May. Nursery had been saying for the previous six months he needed to be potty trained so we tried for a week just before he turned 3. It didn't work as he wouldn't tell us when he needed to go so we left it for a couple of months to try again. We tried again at the end of May and he's been pretty good. He varies between asking to go and going himself with the odd poo accident. He's also dry at night. At parents evening a week ago nursery said he was fine with no issues. I raised potty training as he has poo accidents there regularly and they said it was fine, some children take longer to get it. I agreed with that as my older had accidents until 5. This week the nursery manager has told us they don't believe he is ready for potty training and they want him back in nappies next week. I don't think that is in his best interests when he's doing fine the 5 days a week he isn't at nursery. Should I push back or do nursery know better?
