DS turned 2 years old a couple of weeks ago and I'm starting to think of trying potty training. There's a bit of a back story so bare with me...
I trained my older DD when she was 22 months. She was a covid baby and during lockdown I basically did a form of elimination communication from 5 months where I would watch for sign of her pooing and whip her nappy off and sit her on the potty so she was already doing poos on the toilet/potty and I just really needed to catch the pees and get her cognisant of when she needed to go. We used the oh crap method and she was complerely accident free within 2 weeks.
With DS I had intended to do the same but it never happened on account of I had bad birth injuries and I also had a toddler to take care of! At 22 months DH and I had a go at training DS but we abandoned it on day 2 as he wasn't getting it and was starting to get stressed. He's not looked at the potty since (we left it in the corner of the room because we thought it might be better to take a gradual/more gentle approach with him). For the past 2 weeks he's been hiding behind a chair to poo and then for the past 3 days I've been asking if he wants to sit on the potty and he seems really happy to and has asked twice in the past day to sit on it but it's after he has already pood or doesn't do anything. His language is amazing and can say very long words like "dinosaur," "elephant" etc, is able to speak in extended sentences and i can have small conversations with him so with all these things together I'm thinking it's time to try potty training again but....
There is a spanner in the works in that I have a 4.5 year old that is very distracting to DS and she has just finished nursery due to start school in 2 weeks (not in england) so is a bit of a ball of emotions. DH works full time and DM is unwell and can't look after DD right now. My in-laws don't help at all and I don't have anyone else to help either.
What would you do in my situation and how would you go about training this boy? I'm reluctant to try the oh crap method again....
