Not sure if I’m doing this right

Ds is 3.5, this is the 3rd or 4th I’m trying potty training. He won’t tell me when he needs to pee or poop. Will only sit on the potty if I distract him with cartoons, he’ll sit for maybe 30-45 minutes, sometimes he’ll do something other times he won’t. I always give him lots of praise and show him what he’s done so he can see why I’m praising him. I put underwear on him during times he’s not on the potty. He’s having lots of accidents, it’s like he doesn’t even notice he’s done them, he doesn’t say and will just sit like nothing has happened. Sometimes he’ll go in the potty then pee himself 5-10 minutes later. Does it just take a while for things to click? Am I approaching this the wrong way? Any advice would be great

Don't put underwear on him yet, it can feel like a nappy. Keep him bare bummed (at home obviously) and let him see/feel what happens when he needs the loo.

Don't make him sit on the potty for 30/40 minutes, five minutes max, unless he asks for longer because he can feel a poo coming.

Give him a chocolate button/sweet/sticker every time he gets one in the potty. When he misses don't be cross, just clean up and remind him that next time it needs to go in the potty. Get him to help clean up where appropriate so it becomes more hassle to wet himself than it is to just go on the potty.

Thanks for your reply. I started putting him on every half hour for 5 minutes, this worked well on day 4, we had a lot less accidents. We’re on day 6 now and he’s had so many accidents today, I put him on, he’ll do nothing insist he doesnt need to go and then two minutes later will wet himself 🤦‍♀️ I’m going to continue hopefully it will start to click with him soon 🙏
