Toddlers diarrhoea - how do you potty train with this!?

Our son has a classic case of toddlers diarrhoea from an immature gut. (Been to 2 paediatricians and they each just said he will grow out of it because there was no allergy or bacteria or anything like that. They just said it’s a phenomenon.) It started at age 14 months and now at 2.5 years it’s still the consistency of wet mashed potato. I really miss the fleeting six months where we had solid poos in the nappy.

Anyway how the hell am I meant to potty train when his poos are sloppy? He goes once a day, two if we’re unlucky. Often after his nap but not always. They stink. Can’t find any resources or real-life experience of how people did it when they had a case of toddler diarrhoea
