Potty training method

Can anyone recommend a book/method to follow for potty training? DS is almost 2 and starting to show signs of readiness. I’m not sure where to start! I’ve heard of Oh Crap but mixed reviews. I generally (try to) follow a child-led/gentle parenting type approach!

I didn’t read Oh Crap book (who has time!) but read the general idea think we did similar with all 3 of mine. I made sure we had a good chunk of time at home, eg Friday - Monday no nursery and can just stay home. Naked from waist down. Loads of attention, games, activities etc and the second you get an inkling they’re gonna need a wee, take them to the potty and they’ll probably do one but if not no biggie. Loads of praise etc. Basically make it fun. They’ll probably be running to the potty just for the fun of it 😄 After a couple of days they’ll get it probably.

DD is 2y3months and been potty trained about a month now, hasn’t had an accident for a couple of weeks. Still has a nappy at nap and bedtime.

It really might not be terrible. I’ve never had too much trouble with it. Boys FAR simpler to train IME, wild wees far easier!

Oh also get a potty with a removable inner bit and then you can just take that inner bit out to the park with you etc rather than taking the whole thing or buying a travel potty.

OH but I think once you start potty training, the main thing is you have to stick with it. No giving up. It’s too confusing. You’ll probably have a day where you feel like they’re not getting it but you have to power through because 1) it’s confusing and 2) in a week’s time you’ll be glad you did.

Also if your kid is in nursery that’s good, they’ll do a lot of the work for you too hopefully, but I’d say definitely have 3 or 4 days at home concentrating on it first!

@BingoMarieHeeler great tips, thank you! When I say read the book, I was almost certainly going to listen to the audio version on the commute 😅. A friend has got a potty which looks like a tiny toilet and has a “flush” button that makes a good noise. DS loves that so I was going to get one of those and then I’ll perhaps get one with a removable liner as you suggest!
