Tried my little girl (26 months) with a potty over the weekend. She loved it and did only 2 wees in her nappy on Sunday. Even managed 2 poops on the toilet.

Really disappointed with myself for pushing her too much doing no nappy and over prompting her which we both got stressed about. Have gone back to nappy and sitting her on the potty every now and then but she's rarely weeing on it now. Even with stickers but she has managed a wee before bed tonight.

Any tips for getting her enthusiasm back please? Should I go for it again with no nappy when I've 3 days off again? Will she have loads of accidents after the 3 days when she goes into knickers? Or will she get the hang of it if I carry on with the nappy and prompting just before meals and naps etc.

Thank you

Personally when I trained my children I thought it was best to do no nappy and have pants/knickers. Nappies are confusing, when they are put on and off. One minute they can wee in one then next they can’t. Also in underwear they can feel wet and it’s nice a nice feeling, hopefully prompting toilet use. I found it best to have a few days at home, I’m underwear and just go for it.

Thank you, were yours having many accidents after 3 days? She'd be back at nursery

Hey! When I potty trained my dd earlier this year (she was 2 and a bit) I went nappy free and didn't prompt too much, as soon as she started weeing I'd pop her on the potty and remind her we wee on the potty, after a day of that she got it and would say she'd need a wee. After 3 days she went to nursery and she only had accidents the first day until she figured out that she needed to use a potty there too! Within a week and a bit she was dry in the day and night and telling me when she needed to go (we've had maybe half a dozen accidents in the last few months)

So much is how much they can understand (language) and how much they dislike weeing themselves 😅 thankfully my daughter hated it so was incentivised to use the potty quickly!

After the first day and a half I started putting pants on her.
