So sorry if this is long but I'm at a bit of a loss with what to do with DD, she's been toilet trained since 2.5 and is now 4.9.
For as long as I can remember she's had small accidents where it isn't a full blown wee but her pants are wet. sometimes it's daily, sometimes she can go weeks being completely dry. There isn't anything that I can put my finger on that is triggering it. She's fully capable of taking herself to the toilet etc but it's like she just can't be bothered so waits and waits until she can't hold it any longer. She doesn't care that she's wet and often wont tell anyone so ends up sore and if I tell her to go sit on the toilet it's a massive tantrum because she doesn't want to. She's the same in nursery, they remind her every so often and she has a great dry few weeks then as soon as they think she's got the hang of it and give her that bit of independence with it she's back to accidents again.
I've spoken with our hv who suggested using the Eric website and some form of reward chart which worked for a bit but it doesn't keep her motivated very long.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, will it just be something that clicks one day? She starts school in September, is it normal for primary 1 children to still be having frequent accidents? I'm so worried that she just isn't bothered by it at all.

My son was still having little accidents by the time he started school. Just little ones though where he couldn't get to the toilet quick enough.

Once he started school though i think he had two accidents before they stopped all together.
I think it was expected so everyone went to the toilet at set times and very much became routine. Also got the impression that he felt he was in big school now, with some much bigger kids here, so lots of growing up to do.

It sounds like it's just the "too busy, I'm playing" mentality. She'll hopefully grow out of it.

Thanks for replying that's really reassuring.
That's all they are here too just small ones she's then able to finish on the toilet, I'm really hoping that's the case for us too and it will just click. I'm usually very easy going with parenting so I'm not sure why this is stressing me out so much!

If the HV has directed you towards the ERIC website, is she constipated?

@CadyEastman she isn't but her thinking was that there's a few things on there about what our bodies do and where wee comes from etc that might help her to understand more about her body and when she needs to go. To be honest it's done absolutely nothing and we've had a terrible couple of days, 3 accidents yesterday and 2 today one when she was actually stood in the bathroom with me. I'm just at a loss of where to go from here.
