My nearly 2yo started potty training at 21mo. 6 weeks in he started self initiating wees (he self initiated poos from the start).

We had 3 blissful weeks of basically no accidents and then this last week he's taken a massive step back, it's like he never learnt! Poos remain fine, but he'll just wee with no awareness. He was just having a drink and just weeing on the floor at the same time. He can still hold it for 2 hours but occasionally it's been 30/45 minutes later and another accident.

He has great communication, can tell me that wees go on the toilet, will pretend his toys are weeing on the toilet and I've been getting him to help me clean up after accidents as of yesterday.

I really don't want to quit after nearly 3 months, but I'm not sure what to do or if I'm doing anything wrong... 🫠

I can always go back to timing his wees I guess!? I don't make a big deal of accidents, it's just "accidents happen, you're still learning, next time you'll wee on the toilet".

He’s probably just trying to figure out the boundaries of how long he can hold it for, and I’m sure he is aware, he maybe just doesn’t care about being a bit wet, because not all do, especially if they’re the type that loves outdoorsy messy play ie doesn’t care about being wet and dirty in other situations. I’d just take him every 2 hours and make he doesn’t rush off the potty before he’s finished for a bit and when accidents become a rarity again back off and let him take control again.

@InTheRainOnATrain Thanks for the tips. I'm feeling quite negative as it feels like it's only getting worse! He's now only holding it for 45 minutes at most and just SO many accidents! I'm hoping patience pays off aha.
