Potty training

At my wits end with 3 year old!

I feel like I'm doing toilet training completely wrong and would love some tips! DS is 3 years 5 months and started using the potty for pretty much all his wees two months ago.
About a month ago he progressed to the toilet and all was going well ( dry during the night too). However he will NOT poo on the toilet. He has been hiding since he was about 18 months doing poos but he's never been ready until just past 3 to attempt any form of toilet training.
I think he can't bear the thought of not hiding and he will become hysterical until he is able to poo and hide. I have tried to leave him alone in the bathroom, put a potty out under the table etc but nothing works. We have tried to sit him on toilet with the pull up on so he's used to it but that's also a no go and also sticker rewards like what we did for wees.
Now it's starting to impact his progress with wees and he has stopped telling us he needs a wee and takes a lot of bribery to get him to wee on toilet since we have been trying to progress with the poos and I feel we are back to square one.
Does anyone please have any tips?

Following as I'm in the same boat. I had a little progress with a sticker chart at one point

Bribe him with chocolate buttons

Tell him "If you do a poo in the loo, you'll get a chocolate button"

give it to him immediately - like as he sits in the loo if needed.

No point making them wait for a delayed"prize" at 3 he needs an immediate reward.

Do this alongside zero reaction for pooing elsewhere. Literally ignore the fact he hides to do a poo... apart from reminding him to do it loo next time to get a chocolate button.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Great point about the immediate reward too! He's back to weeing on the toilet regularly at home and nursery which is good. He typically does one poo every 3 days I wish he was more regular for more opportunities!

Sounds like he's constipated 😔 might be part of the problem if it's painful/uncomfortable to do his business.

Has he seen a doctor, they might prescribe something to get things moving along a bit?
