Hi there, my son is 3 and we've been doing bare bottom potty training for over a week now. Each time he's been telling me that he wants to go for a wee with no accidents and does this on the toilet very well (gets rewarded with a chocolate button) he still hasn't done a poo on the toilet yet this is done in his pull ups.. So i decided this week to move onto wearing pants and now he's completely stopped telling me that he needs to go wee and is doing it in his pants done this 10 times in a row... Is this normal? Any advice for this please feels like we are just back to square one again?

Moving to shorts/pants he's got to re learn when he realises he needs to go.

Go back to taking him every 20/30 mins or however long you were taking him, and he'll soon get it again. It feels more like having a nappy on again for him compared to wearing nothing. Same happened with my boy.

Take away the pull ups at home so he has no choice but to poo In pants/toilet. He'll soon realise it's not nice to have dirty pants! You can still use pull ups at bedtime or when out.

Have you tried no underwear but baggy jogging bottoms? It means he can leave the house but stops that muscle memory thing of the nappy like feeling that some kids struggle with. Are the pull ups just for bed? It can be confusing to use them outside of this so if you’re putting them on at other times I’d stop.

We trained at 2, so not sure if it’s different, but we also did the no pants just baggy shorts/trousers and they were trained in a weekend. Poo did take a bit longer but was fine in the end. We didn’t use pull ups, that’s just the same as putting them back in a nappy. We had a few wee accidents when we introduced pants later, but all fine now.
