Gradually potty training at 27mo

I was planning on waiting for my daughter to be “ready” to potty train, but have been a bit freaked out by info on ERIC and Oh Crap that it should be done by 30 months and there is no need to wait, that this is a myth.

it fits our instincts and ethos more to take the gradual/ERIC approach than the Oh Crap approach, but just looking for a bit of advice. Our plan is:

  • making potty routine (first thing, last thing, 20 min after meals)
  • saying “potty time” rather than asking
  • having nappy off time in the eve
  • using reusable nappies/liners
  • lots of verbal praise
  • being clear that it is an accident to poo/wee on floor but not “it’s okay”

thought we’d try this for a little while to see if she starts to get a little bit more dry on her own. Then maybe start experimenting with saying goodbye to nappies

Any pitfalls here? Are we setting ourselves up? Or any other advice?

my main concern is that she does do quite frequent, soft poos. I don’t think she has an allergy but she’s definitely not a solid poo-er! She tells me when she has pood but never before/during (even if I ask). We had one soft accident today and she got very upset, so don’t want this to become a problem

I wonder if this would be confusing for your DD, what’s stopping you going for it? Is it’s the soft poos?
