I am on day 4 of potty training my DS (3y2m). He got fed up with nappies so was on board with it, but we’re seeing very slow progress. We’re following the Oh Crap method and I’m definitely getting good at spotting his cues and getting him to the potty with decent warning so we’re doing well on that front.

What is screwing us is the sheer number of wees he’s doing - up to 4 or 5 in an hour after a drink.

Example: we left the house today for an hour. We did a ‘just in case wee’ before we left (not big). When we arrived at our destination we did another wee (more sizable). 10-15 mins later he wet himself. Then he did another sizeable wee on the travel potty on the way home. All in an hour!

He’s (understandably) bored of constantly having to go to the potty and starting to complain. How can I help him really empty his bladder the first time? Or does the gap between wees just get bigger??

How is it going now OP? I see this thread is a few days old, is the gap between wees getting any bigger? i.e. is he starting to work out how to hold it a bit more?

With my DS, when it did click, the wees got much farther apart about 6-7 days into potty training (though we weren't doing Oh Crap) as he started to work out how to hold it - on a previous attempt we'd seen zero progress by about day 10, still weeing more than every hour so we gave up for 2 months.

Thank you so much for checking in. It’s going so much better! We’re on day 8 and it’s more than an hour between wees now, so he has obviously learned to hold it better. I’m relieved - it started to improve on day 5 and has gradually got better. Glad I persevered!
