Do I carry on?
DD 3 in 2 and half months time,
Decided to start potty training at the weekend, did really well first day, just 2 wees started on the floor then finished on the potty but she was bare bummed,

Introduced pants yesterday, had 1 accident as soon as they were put on but then all wees in the potty with prompting and even a poo,

Today she's had 3 wees in the potty and then 2 accidents too.

Do i just preserve and carry on? Also what do I do when I need to go shopping? Just take her with no nappy and see how she goes?

Don't stop, she sounds well on her way.

If you need to go out, get her to try for a wee before leaving and take a travel potty/spare clothes with you.

Thank you, I need to invest in a travel potty
Everytime she has an accident I feel like giving up
She doesn't know this though, I don't react to them. Just clean it up

Also what's the etiquette with a travel potty, I don't drive so can't use it in the boot?

No car here either. I just used to sling mine under the buggy and he used it out and about when necessary. Obviously not in a shop or where we were eating etc but generally most places it was not a problem to get it out.

Using it just in a boot would defeat the purpose of the travel potty to be honest as it was only for the initial few weeks where when he said he needed to go, he needed to go then. After a short while he was able to wait long enough for us to find a toilet or sometimes a discreet bush/tree.

Sounds like she is doing brilliantly!
We use a travel potty a lot and have used it everywhere you can imagine. On the street, ina shopping centre, in playgrounds etc. it usually gets ignored or warm hunourous comments (like an elderly couple who giggled about 'you have to go when you have to go'. Anyone that wants to be grumpy has clearly never hands on managed potty training and a busy life where you can't sit at home for weeks and would be more grumpy if they had to step around an accident so I don't worry about them!!! But to be honest I haven't noticed anyone being grumpy/unreasonable

This makes me feel so much better. I've ordered one

It reminds me of when I was so scared to breastfeed in public, after a while I actually didn't care 🤣

I’ve got another thread going about the oh crap method, on day 2 today of just pants and had quite a few accidents. Started to just stand and wee and say oh no. When bare bummed she’d go potty herself for both wee and poo. She’ll go when i recognise sign but getting some resistance to try but then accident 10/15 mins later. Not sure what to do!

Sorry I'm no help, when I recognise the signs I just put her on it every few minutes till she did one,
Now she's weeing first time
I had the oh crap book on my other phone but I'm not buying it again

Just an update. Had several trips out with no accident. Some the school runs and a couple off hours out of the house

She's going a lot longer in between weeing too, like 2 hours, so glad I preserved. We've had the odd accident at home when we've not made it in time but it's only been a week

A fold up toilet seat is your friend when out and about 🙂

Fold up toilet seats are amazing! For a while, I put DD in a nappy if we were going somewhere like soft play, where she would be distracted. Now she's just built up the muscles to hold it longer, rather than actually stopping playing, but very few accidents now so I'll take that!

It's amazing how it seems impossible for so long, then it suddenly clicks! Glad it's going well for you

Hello! Please can I ask for some reassurance? My son will be 3 in may. For the last year we have introduced him to a potty, explained what it is and praised him for sitting on it etc. He’s recently done about 3 wees in there with lots of encouragement (after getting out of bath and not wanting a nappy back on for example). Anyway, today he’s gone for a wee 8 times! A few accident first thing. We weren’t planning on starting today and this close to the weekend but I’ve just sort of gone with him being excited about getting it right today. Do you suggest I just keep going with it now!? We have to be out a few hours on Sunday so I guess I’ll just have to be fully prepared he’s going to need several change of clothes then x

Yes in my experience just keep going! DS chose the week we went on holiday to want to use the potty and lots of people told us to hold off but we didn't and he was absolutely fine. When they show they are ready absolutely don't stop them.

toomanyleggings · 12/01/2024 13:34

Keep going. Get a travel potty and you can get a cover for car seat /pushchair that you can take off easily if she has a an accident

BabyMamaOf2 · 12/01/2024 13:49

@Doppelgangers @toomanyleggings thank you guys! I’d feel like today has been wasted if I put him back in a nappy so didn’t want to do that and confuse him. I think I just wasn’t expecting it today so don’t feel ready😅 just feel like I’m winging this so thank you again!

I read that at first they do loads of wees coz in nappies they go little and often, they have to learn to fill their bladder

We had so many wees the first few days all after each other, today we've had 5 wees all in the potty with no accidents, we started a week ago tomorrow

@ew1990 thank you! I’m glad yours is doing well😊 the frequency has definitely calmed down this afternoon. He was going every 10 minutes this morning and now every hour. I was in the kitchen feeding my baby and heard him take himself to the potty. He’s done about 12 in the potty today with very little accidents since this morning.. I’m really chuffed with him. Probably makes him want to wee more with a cold bottom on the floor all day😂 have you ventured out yet? X

ew1990 · 12/01/2024 16:49

We've done a couple of school runs twice a day nappy free and a 2 hour trip out with no accidents so she can definitely hold it

I take spare clothes though just in case
