My daughter was 3 in Sept and potty training has been a long difficult road for us. She has cracked going for a pee with not many accidents but once a day she asks for a pull up to do a poo in. She's going to preschool today.
She hated underwear for a long time so she would just wear leggings and that worked but now she struggles pulling up and down underwear and leggings on her own. Is it appropriate to send her to nursery in leggings with no underwear or should I still send her in underwear but she will need help when going to the toilet pulling them up and down?

No direct experience of preschools as both mine did private nursery, but didn't want to read and run.

I'm guessing she may already have gone to preschool by now today, but just in case she hasn't, I can't imagine the preschool will be happy with no underwear.

They will surely be expecting to have to give some assistance with clothes etc during toilet trips though? Best to have a chat with them at pickup today about what they are expecting.

I’m doing the oh crap method which suggests no pants just trousers so I won’t be sending my LO in both and it shouldn’t bother preschool, they’re covered up and it’s no less hygienic.

Both my DC went to different nurseries and neither nursery would let them come in commando during potty training.

In fact DC2 nursery specifically asked us not to do oh crap -which we weren't going to anyways, but i think was overstepping on their part to ask.

Ours insists on underwear. I think the issue is more in summer when shorts can be obscene without underwear and it’s easier just to say underwear for all than start making specific judgments based on tightness of their shorts, or saying things like no bits on show in their uniform guidelines! Nursery will of course help her- it’s totally normal for 3YOs to need help, most wouldn’t be able to wipe properly after a poo anyway and getting clothes out of the way in time is a persistent issue in this age, they’re used to it!

Oh and another thing- try underwear a size up and joggers instead of leggings. It’ll be much easier for her.

Thanks all, definitely some underwear in the next size up will be easier for her I think, wish I'd thought of this before!
