3 year old holding wee

Hello, some advice please. My nearly three year old is holding his wee. We have started trying to toilet train but he just will not go on the toilet or potty. We’re on day two and unless I put a nappy on him he will not wee. Not even on himself or in his pants. We had a hospital admission a few months ago because he couldn’t/wouldn’t go for a wee, we’re still waiting on results of some scans but at the moment they say kidneys and bladder looks good so putting it down to a one off. He reluctantly sits on the potty but just will not wee. Any advice.

Lay the nappy on the floor and let him wee into it, then put it in his potty, then when that's going okay take the nappy away.

Both of mine did this. I stopped training for a bit then started again. Lots of talk about everyone needs to wee etc, my eldest wanted to never need a wee again.

Maybe he's not ready yet.
I knew my DD was physically ready but not emotionally ready. Motivation around being a big girl didn't work as she wanted to stay a baby! So we took the pressure off. Kept a potty and a seat trainer in the bathroom, often asked if she wanted to use them (always no) and had a breakthrough one day when I was running a bath. The noise of the running water helped I think. Nappy was already off and she was asking for a new one but I said not before the bath but if she needed a wee she could use the potty. At this point she couldn't hold any longer and used it. So very pleased with herself she was dry from them on. Just over 3 years old and I was getting worried!

I would leave it a couple of months and take the pressure off.

Does your ds ever wee in the bath? As in, find that standing in water triggers the need for a wee? I know it sounds odd, but my dd would hold on to wees for a long time when potty training and so I'd sometimes let her play in the bath during the day and when she started to pee, lift her onto the toilet.

Also try running the tap or letting him blow bubbles when on the potty.
