Pooing in a nappy

Dd is 3.5 and has been toilet trained for wees for about 8 months. She knows when she needs to go and can hold it and will take herself off to the potty and is no trouble in this area.

she is still wet through over night which is obviously fine.

we are having big problems with poo. She can poo on the potty and has done a handful of times but she is really difficult about it. She waits until we put her night time nappy on and does it then, or wakes up early and does it in her nappy before we have a chance to take it off. If she needs a poo during the day she usually will have a melt down until I give her a nappy. On a few occasions she has waited until I am busy putting her sister down for a nap and then found the nappies, put one on herself and pooed. So she can obviously hold it until she wants to go.

im not sure how to fix it. I feel she’s physically capable of pooing on the potty but she’s just trying to exercise control.
until she’s dry at night we need to have nappies in the house so finding it difficult 😣

we have tried rewards stickers or treats for when she poos on the potty but it doesn’t really work - she’s just adamant she wants a nappy.

any one have any tips x

Is she still using a potty or is she on a toilet?

How does she react if you put the nappy in the potty?

Same problem with Nephew. Will poo in pants rather than in loo . Child is coming across as scared of pooing in potty/ loo .
Have tried everything ie blowing balloons/ bubbles on potty/ rewards / bribery !
Nephew is completely ahead of the game with general development so it’s very frustrating . New tactic is that nappy on for a poo but has to go to bathroom to use it . We are generally at a loss .Nephew has had problems with constipation since a baby so we think it’s a general fear about pooing.
Any words of wisdom would be great .

@Camarthen67912 she has access to both. She uses toilet happily when out but seems to prefer potty at home.

@titchy I haven’t tried this. Will definitly try. It’s a bit tricky as she’s being a bit crafty and going when we are busy or at night!

@Joeslaol19 she hasn’t pooed her pants yet but she probably would if there were no nappies in the house. Dd is also super mature with everything else but this! She gave up her dummy with no issues at all and has taken everything in her stride but can’t let go of pooing in a nappy.

we have had a baby this year and moved house twice and she has started preschool so she’s had a lot going on bless her. Trying not to be too negative about it but 3.5 year old poos are pretty grim 😂

We had this with my middle one. We just let him ask for a nappy when he needed a poo. He grew out of it in a few months.
