So my toddler understands that he needs to use the potty to do his business, he answers right whenever asked. But, he only runs to the potty AFTER he peed on himself. So he does understand where he needs to do it, but we've not had one success yet where he goes to the potty on time by himself. However, he has done his business on the potty several times when I encouraged him to use it.

We've only been trying since this weekend, and it's historically the second time we try. First time was back in August, and what a disaster so we stopped. Any tips please, I'm on the verge of giving up again!!!!!!!!

Mine has just turned three and I have literally just run out of clean trousers for him. I’m like you and don’t know what to do.

Knowing where to go and being able to hold it until they get there are two different things. If he can't hold it yet, just try again in another couple of months.

My friend was very proud to tell people her son was potty trained at 20 months. He could recognise he needed a wee but he couldn't hold it. He literally peed himself every time he needed a wee.

I tried a few times over the course of about 8 months with DS. At 3y and 1 month, he decided that was the time to use the potty. He is now 5.5 yo and has had zero accidents. We just followed his lead and didn't worry about all those people telling us how young their kids were.
