Hey!

My just turned 3 year old daughter is showing absolutely no sign or interest in using a potty or toilet. We’ve put her in pants but she will just hold her wee until she is in physical pain and then wet herself it’s been quite distressing for her and us to be honest. Her nursery have been trying to help too but nothing seems to be working. She gets very upset if we try encourage potty or toilet use and I really don’t want to traumatise her with it but also keen to help with her development. All her friends at nursery are using a potty and I don’t want her left behind.

i am really stuck and would love some advice from anyone who’s in the same boat or been here before. I have 2 older children and never experienced this defiance when it comes to potty training before.

thanks in advance

Act as if it's no big deal but say she gets a reward for using it, and if she wets the floor she has to stop playing and help clear up.

Those are the consequences but act neutral, I think maybe you're stressing about it and that's making her clamp down?

Could you take a day off or stay in one weekend, big bag of smarties etc, just you and a potty in a hard floored room, tell her the deal but don't pressure.

Could try reward chart watching and reading lots of potty training books.
Another good one is poo goes to poo land it's a good app to get for when she does use the potty or toilet.
Try not to be too disheartened sometimes it's a case of giving it a break and trying again in a months time they eventually do click and get it.

Always best to do it when you've got a weekend or week of no commitments to fully focus on it in the house.

Can you leave it for a couple of months and try again? Might be best to take the pressure off.

That’s what I’m thinking to be honest. Just didn’t know if it would cause more issue with stop starting but I’m not sure we have any other option at the moment.
