Great when Naked...

DS (25 months) has decided to potty train. I wasn't really ready but here we are anyway!

He is refusing nappies whilst in the house, and prefers to walk around in the nuddy. And when doing so he is fab- not one accident so far. Will stop playing to tell me he needs to go, will willing stop in the middle of a book, tells me in the middle of dinner. Every single time, even poo's on the potty. I've not once had to ask or remind him because he's cracked it. Fab, I hear you say? Not quite.... Because now when I now put pants on him he will have an accident. I've tried just trousers, but the same thing happens.
When we're going out I offer a nappy but there's screaming and crying and refusing. We're compromising to put a nappy on and his big boy pants over top, which was nursery's suggestion, but my question is how do we get to the next stage?

Pull ups ?

MrsHapus · 19/08/2023 07:28

He has been in pull ups for a while. He was a bum shuffler and normal nappies didn't cut it! And now he's able to just pull them down. But when it's pants he seems to just forgot

Following. We're in the same predicament.
Day 3 of potty training 29month old, he has cracked it when naked from waist down, but really struggles with pants/trousers.
No advice, hoping it clicks .......

MrsHapus · 30/08/2023 21:21

If it helps- it's suddenly just clicked for us! And not only that, since the day it clicked he has been dry through the night too. Totally refusing nappies so he doesn't even wear them overnight anymore!
it took my daughter until nearly 5 to do that!

Try no pants and baggy trousers for a few days. Keep pants off for as long as possible - and I'd really not suggest putting nappies on for anything other than sleep. It'll be very confusing for him otherwise. It sounds like you've done block one off the oh crap method so the book might help you with the next free weeks and steps too. I have a daughter so I was lucky that I could have her for another couple of weeks in a dress with no pants. We then moved to leggings no pants and finally after about 3/4 weeks, pants.
