We started training our almost 3 year old straight away. We went straight to using the toilet instead of a potty as we have a little ladder and step combo to feel less afraid. He took to it straight away within a few days and was running off to go toilet when he got the urge so I thought cool he's cracked it. He was wearing normal boy pants by the way not training ones

A few weeks later and he either has accidents or usually we see him get the urge and take him

Why has he suddenly changed? Is it laziness? I don't want to put him back in pull ups so do I just continue this and he will gradually want to go on his own again?

He's 3 very soon

Are you still encouraging toilet use, celebrating, keeping track with sticker charts etc? He'll need constant reassurance and praise for a while after training.

Yes we do

Anything going on that's affecting his routine? Any upsets/big excitements?

It might be he's too busy doing fun things to remember, so set some timers maybe every 10-15 minutes and take him to the toilet and see if he needs to do anything. Ask often too so you keep an eye on it.

You could try him on the potty anyway, and keep it in the room he's in so he's reminded to use it and doesn't have to rush/miss getting to the toilet in time.

Keep him in pants and make it so there aren't accidents by getting there before they happen

No upsets no

We take him often so no accidents but is that proper toilet training if he's not going by himself?
