DS started using the potty and is doing amazing with wees with very few accidents (currently day 3). He done 2 poos on the potty the first day but now he's pooing standing up as he would do with a nappy on. I don't know how to approach this I.e don't want to make a big fuss by rushing him to the potty or picking him up and physically putting him on it if he doesn't want to
Any suggestions?

Erm. It's unacceptable to shit on the floor, he needs to know that. So yes, rush him to the toilet (potty is easier!) and make it clear that he needs to do poos there from now on.

Lots of praise and kindness but also a bit of firmness - if he wets or messes himself, don't say 'oh don't worry nevermind', say 'we do wees and poos on the potty now, next time let's do that'.

So if he stands there and starts pooing, you whip him off to the loo/potty.

Potty training is about handing over responsibility for a bodily function to your child, you need to be firm enough that he knows that's what's happening.

@AuntieJune thank you that's really helpful. It's my first time potty training and just want to make sure I get it right and don't want to make it an alarming situation for him and scare him when he has a poo but that makes so much sense
