I’m lost with potty training

My child won’t sit on the potty, or if he does it is for seconds and then just wanders off, will happily pee and poo on the floor and seems to find peeing on the floor really funny which obviously isn’t something I want to encourage.

Is it best just to leave for a while? He is 2 years 7 months.

Leave it, he's not ready yet.

When they're ready, it takes all of a week to get them trained. If it's been a week and he's still going on the floor, then leave it.

I’m afraid I don’t have any advice on how to get him to use his potty; I had the same thing with my Son-would sit and look at books or toys on potty but would then jump up and wee on the floor.

I left it a few months and ditched the potty altogether; I figured it was an unnecessary (gross) extra step so I then just trained straight to the toilet with all 3 (with one of those trainer seats so they didn’t feel they were falling through the hole).

id recommend clearing your diary for a few days and staying at home-trying to work around days out etc with a potty is a nightmare, but when they’re ready you can have the hard part done in a few days (there may be the odd accident but you’ll know if they get it)

I did wonder about trying the toilet, but if he won’t tell me when he needs a wee or poo, what do you do? Just try to persuade them to sit on the toilet until they go then praise / bribery?

It could be he’s not ready but he sort of is as in he COULD just bloody WON’T!
