So I've put LO in pants and every half an hour I'm saying it's potty time. Does that sound right? It's not going well! They tell me when they've dontme a wee/poo but it's too late then. I've tried watching for signs they need a wee but there are none!

And what do I do about nursery? Just send them in in pants?!

You could try naked from the waist down with the potty in arms reach so you can attempt to catch it and then they should start making the connection a bit quicker (the basis of the oh crap method).

Seems to hate the potty. Has done a couple of wees in the loo but mostly seems to sit there singing

Thank you I shall give that a go

Nursery I would ask them but if they don’t mind then I would send in baggy bottoms and no underwear to avoid the muscle memory of the nappy (underpants can feel like a nappy).

The weather is perfect for not wearing pants. Let the little one play out and have the potty to hand. There is no magic formula for potty training IMHO. All you can do is to gently encourage. Don't make a big fuss as it can be off putting to the little one

@FlounderingFruitcake That makes sense! Thank you

@Softoprider OK got it thank you - I need to chill a bit! Yes outside is good.

Definitely chill. Do not worry. Who cares if your sisters friends child was potty trained at silly o clock. They all get it in the end.

rightioly · 10/06/2023 10:29

@Softoprider Thank you. LO is 3 and so I worry I've left it too late.

If he’s willing then that’s a good age as he’ll have great understanding. I ‘left it too long’ with my DD but by that I mean it was harder to train her at almost 3 because she was stubborn and defiant as hell, classic three-nager basically, and had top notch bladder control and peed like twice a day so the odds of actually catching anything in the potty were stacked against me. But of course she got there and didn’t start school nursery let alone school in nappies!
