I don't know if I'm looking for advise or reassurance but we started potty training on Friday, and my LO has been doing really well, only had two accidents at home, they have been using the potty, sometimes themselves and sometimes prompted by us.

However today they have gone into nursery for the first time without a nappy and already they have had four accidents all wees and one poo.... Is this to be expected? I'm worried now they are just not quite ready maybe?

Hi OP - My son did exactly this - we started potty training on the Monday, did wonderfully all week - he attends nursery just on Fridays and he had a massive backward step - got through all 4 pairs of his spare trousers. Fast forward to week 2 at nursery and no accidents at all. In his case his keyworker said he was really distressed at using the nursery toilet / potty - so we brought his own in which appears to have 🤞. Obviously very early days, nursery commented that there's so much going on for them at nursery their minds are elsewhere. I'm sure you're little one will be smashing it there in no time x

@PeppermintTeaThenBed thank you so much for your reply it's made me feel a bit better

I keep going between, oh it's still new for her and there's loads going on at nursery to oh my god I'm horrible for sending her in if she's not ready! Haha

She just was doing so well at home I don't want this to set her back if you know what I mean x

Yes I can understand, I felt so disheartened when I picked him up. It was probably just me, but I felt as though the staff didn't believe me when I said how well he'd been doing in the week! Good luck with it all ☺️ x

Perfectly normal! I posted once or twice about how stressed I was of my little one not 'getting' it, but now I know it's not something that happens overnight as I imagined. I wish someone told me sooner...

For now just send plenty of changes in and just accept it takes a while. At one point you will see that going to nursery regularly helps immensely with getting into the routine of using the potty/toilet, as all other similar age children go back and forth from the toilet and your little one will find it normal.

I had more accidents at home than at nursery at one point! But in the end they'll get there.

Thank you both for your replies.

Just picked her up from nursery and the staff were really nice about it, tomorrow they are going to make sure they take her at the same time as her friends so she doesn't feel like she's missing out on play time, so we will take one day at a time

@PeppermintTeaThenBed totally get what you mean about feeling like they don't believe you when you say how good they've been at home though! 😂
