Pull ups at childminders

We have started training DS whilst on holiday from childminders last week. At home went bare bum, then introduced trousers/pants. He has been making progress and generally knows when he needs to go and can make it to toilet/ potty, but not fully there yet and still having some accidents (approx. one accident per day at moment).

He is due back at childminders, however there he needs to be in pull ups until he is fully reliably dry. Concern is he can have tendency to be lazy/ get distracted, so although childminders will take him to toilet etc. I suspect if he realises he has pull up he won’t bother with toilet and will just go in pull up for ease.

Any thoughts / suggestions? He has been wearing nappy pants for a while anyway, so these are familiar to him as nappies. Have seen the Huggies training pants which are meant to let them feel wet, has anyone found these beneficial when training?

Thanks!

How does your cm think this will happen though if they are full time?

As a previous c/minder . They are not 100% I have had school children have accidents .

At that level . I would pop on a pull up for school runs - in car etc .

how is he with bowel movements ?

Underpants on with a pull up over the top - DC will feel wet but it won't go everywhere.

TBH both my kids were dry within a couple of days so I wouldn't expect it to take too long if you started this week. Mine were at nursery and we trained Friday - Monday then sent them in on Tuesday with pants on and some spare trousers. Maybe an accident or two that first week but dry after that.

Pants under a nappy sounds like a good trick to try, thanks!

Tbh we weren’t sure he was fully ready to train but had a block of time where we could be at home so figured we would give it a go and he has generally done better than I expected. He can often go 2 hours in between needing to go so can definitely hold it, but does still have usually one maybe two accidents where he is either distracted and doesn’t realise or realises as it is happening.

As he is making progress and think it is starting to click more with him, just a bit concerned about setting him back if he has the ‘easy’ option of using the pull up. Fingers crossed if cm do encourage him to still use toilet he will continue to do so.

No accidents with bowel movements so far, generally have been in the potty/ toilet, once in overnight nappy.

What about old fashioned cloth trainer pants - would the nursery accept those? They would not be like any nappy or pull up he has been using and he would know if he had an accident.
