Using potty but can’t pull trousers up and down?

My daughter is 2y2m and really keen to use the potty. I’d say she uses potty about 95% of the time for poops and and 20% of the time for wees - requesting the potty. This is totally self initiated and no real input from me. She loves potty and is keen and I think it’s a good time to train her but she really can’t pull her pants up and down (this is made harder by her nappy obviously). Would you start properly training her even if she can’t pull her pants down independently?

If she has initiated this then I would put her in trainer pants, especially now that the weather is warm and dry.

Loose shorts with no knickers to start with, or knickers which are slightly too big

She'll pull her pants down won't she if you put her in a skirt? Or is she wearing a nappy and trousers and can't pull trousers down over the nappy? In which case then yes you need to put her in pants and not the nappy.

When I first started toilet training my children I helped them with their clothing every time. I wouldn’t expect a toddler to be fully independent at pulling trousers up and down tbh, especially at 26 months.

Ok great thanks 🙏 wasn’t sure. My son trained closer to three and seemed to have that skill already so I wasn’t sure. She initiates by shouting potty going to get it and bringing to me and tugging at her leggings / nappy (but not able to get them down. When we properly go for it I think we. Will bare bum for a few days and progress from there. Here legging etc will be a lot looser when she has no nappy so I’m sure that would help when we get to that point!

thanks ☺️

I would train her yes since she wants to. But at first just don’t wear anything on bottoms! So she doesn’t have to deal with pulling up and down. Definitely don’t use nappy pants as they don’t help them know if they’re wet. Just put her in dresses with nothing on the bottom for a few days. Sounds like she’s ready. Would be worth ditching leggings and going for very loose bottoms after you put them back on.
