Poo troubles, help!

Can anyone recommend books/resources/strategies which might help my 2yr 9m old do his poos in the toilet? 4 weeks into potty training and wees are mostly ok so long as I take him to the loo regularly, but he is really resistant to doing a poo anywhere except pants.

When he feels a poo coming keeps saying "I don't want to go to the toilet" and refuses to sit on it, then poos in his pants/trousers. I'm sure he's witholding as he used to go once/twice a day and now it's about every 48 hrs but on the days he does go it's often lots of little accidents. He's really grumpy when he hasn't pood and is generally finding it upsetting. I don't think he's having overflow poo as the poo is still formed and generally not hard. He did have one day of rabbit droppings last week though.

We've tried
Poo goes to pooland app
Mrs wee & Mr poo book
Thomas the tank potty training book
Choc buttons
Stickers
Options of potty, upstairs loo with insert seat, downstairs loo with steps up and footrest (he prefers this)
Commando/bare bum at home (he has to wear pants at nursery)

I'm reluctant to go back to nappies as he's mostly cracked the wees. He's dry during naps and sometimes overnight since we started. Also when he's been upset I've offered him a nappy to poo in but he said no, so I'm not convinced this would help anyway.

I'm having the exact same problem with my DD almost 3. My eldest DS was a breeze compared to her! Following your thread if ok to get ideas, but I really think we will get there soon. Determined to stay positive as I boil wash yet another pair of pants.

We are having the same problem with my toddler. We had success with the bare bum at home but are two weeks ish in now so can't just be at home naked all the time. Everyone I speak to says it will just click sometime. Hard to believe but I'm clinging on to that hope!

It’s a really common problem, when he wants a poo put him on the toilet with a nappy on, next time loosen the nappy a bit, keep doing this until u lay the nappy in the toilet.
After 4 weeks u shouldn’t need to take him to the toilet, he should either be telling u he needs to go or taking u to the toilet.

The problem is he doesn't want a nappy on either so I don't think this will help. If he was asking for a nappy I'd just pop one on for poos and gradually work on removing it, but he's adamant he doesn't want that!

I think I'm going to buy a few special "toilet toys" and books, not toilet related things, just small things he can play with while he's sitting, hopefully that will help him to feel comfortable sitting for long enough.

Yes, patience (lack of) is an issue for my toddler. I've tried books by the toilet but might get some toys too.

My son has just turned 3 and we are having the same problem. He has totally cracked the weeing. Has no accidents anymore, unless he was really desperate, is dry for naps and overnight. But pooing has always been an issue. He used to withhold, but now either goes in his pants or will ask for a nappy. He flat out refuses to go on the toilet. I'm not overly worries as I'm sure it will come in time but it is frustrating.
