Day 5 - what's next?

Hello ladies, we're currently on day 5 of potty training my almost 3 year old and it's going surprisingly well. I just wondered what people think my next step should be.
If I put him on the potty every 2 hours or so we have no accidents and he'll do a wee every time. But if I wait for him to realise on his own he'll just start to wet himself and then I have to rush over and put him on to try and catch the rest. Every time I remind him to go he says he doesn't need it, but then when you sit him down he obviously did!
Given we are only on day 5 do I just continue keep putting him on and hope he figures it out, or do I need to leave it to him more and just let him have more accidents?
