Started potty training 2yrs 10month old two weeks ago. Not many accidents. Happy to sit on potty or toilet to do wees and poos in and outside of the house when we take him but isn't yet regularly recognising when he needs to take himself.

Do we need to just stop reminding him and let him work it out for himself? Think I have been keen to avoid accidents so have been overkill on reminding him to go. TIA

Still early days I think. Keep up with reminders a bit longer, maybe when he's been doing it for another week or 2 try to stretch the time between reminders a bit to see what happens. You do get an idea from their behaviour when they need to go and aren't telling you.

I say that, but we trained our son at the same age and he told us he needed to go, maybe once or twice a day, after 1 week. However I still continued with the reminders for many months after.

Thanks that's useful to know. He does get grabby around the trouser area when he needs to go so when I see that I have been directing him to the potty. Maybe I need to wait and see if he will recognise himself that he needs to go - wasn't sure.
