Alternatives to Oh Crap?

Hi all,

With eldest DD, we potty trained using the Oh Crap method (basically bare bottom, grab them just as they start to wee and stick them on). Worked a treat for her, very few accidents. Some issues with withholding poo, but a week after starting we could do trips as long as we had the potty with us.

Things are NOT going smoothly with her younger brothers. They are 2yr5months (could say 2yr3 adjusted, technically, but i dont think thatmakes a difference now).

They have been bare bottom for a week and a half and we've seen very lotto progress. Twin1 is gradually getting there, but still with a LOT of accidents. Probably half of wees now go in the potty and the vast majority of poos. Twin2 is not getting it. He just wees/poos all over the floor. We do get the odd one in the potty, but I think that's random chance.

What do you do with a kid that is clueless? It doesn't feel right to put one back in nappies and carry on training the other. Twin2 is not motivated by star charts or stickers.

I'd stick them both back in nappies for another few months and try again in early summer when it's nice and warm. They're still quite young for toilet training and it you're still mopping up pee all day after a week and a half, really they probably aren't ready.

I have pottied trained two boys. Both were 2yr 11 months. They took longer than the girls. Id say stick them back in nappies and try in a few months.

They decided to "get it" the next day. Clearly just wanted to drive me to desperation first 😂

Both are now soon soon with trousers on, we have had accidents but not when they are athome and can just go when they need to. So I guess I just needed to give them a little longer to process it than their older sister needed!

Thank you very much for your replies. 8 had originally planned to do this a few months down the line (probably Easter holidays) but felt under a bit of pressure to rush it as my MIL will be staying with us for possibly quite a long time and she is NOT supportive ofmy parenting generally so didn't want to betrying to potty train with her around. Admittedly not the best reason to make a parenting decision...
