Advice .... Poo

Hi,

Hoping someone that's done this before can share some wisdom.
My 3 year old DS decided 10 days ago that he will not wear a nappy anymore. He has recently moved into the preschool room at nursery and wants to be 'like the big boys' (his words).

He got the hang of wee's fairly quickly and although we have the odd accident and we have to remind him if he's not been for a while he's generally got the hang of it.

We're not doing anything in particular other than lots of praise and lots of encouragement etc.

Onto poos. So he knows when he's having a poo and tells us he needs one but we're always too late. He clearly doesn't tell us until he's doing it or done it so it's always ending up in his pants.

I've tried to explain that he needs to tell us before he's done it like with wees but he doesn't seem to be able to. We've not had any success and nor have nursery.

He's now getting upset and frustrated as he wants to do it in the potty....

What can I try?

Try sitting him on the potty 15-20 minutes after every meal with his feet on a step, just for a few mins to see if a poo wants to come.

Also try the poo goes to pooland app.

Make sure he has instant access to the potty at home so he doesn’t need to tell you he needs to go.

If you can spot the behaviour that happens just before a poo and then whip the potty out quick. There is usually a time of day they favour as well.
