Great day 1 & 2 - day 3 disaster!

Started training my 25 month old on Friday.

Had a few accidents but she got the most of it and was heading for the potty for wees by the end of the day.

Day 2 started brilliantly - straight to potty for wees without prompting and seemed delighted when emptying the potty and washing hands afterwards. Did a poo mid afternoon and things went downhill after that. Held everything in from about 3:30pm to bedtime.

Day 3 she refuses to go near the potty. Has sat on it with bribery and coaxing but refuses to go. Just sits there crying on it which is heartbreaking! She's also been squirming most of the day because she clearly needs the toilet but won't go near the potty.

Because she actually seems distressed I've put a nappy on her and was thinking she's just not ready? Some guidance I've seen is to tough it out but I really don't think that would be right. Is it right to give up and what could we do in advance next time (a couple of months?) to help make it go better?

Bump. Any book recommendations maybe for my DD to make it less scary?

@ronswansonstache we are on Day 10 at the moment. I purchased the book "what is poo?" Which is an usbourne book, from Amazon and my daughter loves reading. We also watched Pop goes to Poo land and now we send wee there too.

Each child is different so although I read Oh Crap, I have a very wilful daughter and had to handle it in a way that she would respond to.

Thanks @Kayjay2018 I've ordered the poo book for her - seems like the type of thing she'd enjoy.

Oh Crap is the only book I've read and tbh I found it quite rigid and for specific queries the answer usually seems to be 'you should have started sooner' which is particularly helpful!

I've been reading the Eric website now too to get a broader approach.

Have you gone back to nappies at any point during training so far?

@ronswansonstache I have a very wilful 2 and a half year old so I have had to tweak the oh crap to suit her. If i were to tell her to sit on the potty I know she wouldn't do it so it's been about reminding her where is is.

She has nappies only at nap time (that's our rule, though nappy and nap wording would help her remember.

We haven't gone back to nappies at any other time. I had puppy pads under the throws on our sofa for a few days and have a close parent potty training seat thing in her car seat. Other than that just spare clothes and nappy coming everywhere.

We spent days 1,2,3 solidly at home then small trips out after that. We had a few tears first thing for a few mornings when I took her nappy off and she sometimes still asks for one though she says ok now when I say no. We did loads of craft activities and fun things last week to keep her busy and when she was a little fidgety just lots of reminding where her potty was.
