Potty training going backwards

I'm worried I started her too early.

She was amazing when she started at just turned 2.

Slowly accidents started creeping in. More and more frequently, to the point where she is having an accident 5 days out of 7.

She's been a bit poorly with covid I think recently.

She regularly protests when I ask her to try the potty and says she doesn't need one yet when I can bribe her to sit on it she immediately has a wee.

I don't want to facilitate the regular accidents and make her think they are ok, but I also feel after four months we shouldn't go back to nappies?

I have tried a reward charts, but I'm not consistent over a week, she also goes to a childminder 3/4 days a week.

Any advice we feel like we are struggling.

How old is she now OP and for how long has she been having accidents? A brief regression could happen if she's been ill. Anything else changed ( new sibling/ house move etc)?

What is she like at the childminders? Does she use the potty there?

Nothing new going on that I can think of. She's an only child.

She's the same at the childminders when she's at home, she can have dry days both at home and at the child minders but they are few and far between now. She used to be brilliant.

She's 2 years 4 months now.

We started potty training just after 2 and it went well but then regressed. In hindsight I do think we started too early. Child is now 2 yr 8 months and we've just had to power through, some days lots of accidents and some fewer but now she knows her own mind she can be so stubborn about using the toilet. We still have accidents or at least little drips in her pants every day but slowly it is improving. She's been better in the past month so it's just been a very long process but getting there. About 2 months ago I was ready to put her back into nappies I was so frustrated but she'd been out of them for 6 months so we just had to keep going.

Next child I'm going to wait to potty train until they're at least 2 and a half. So annoying as she seemed so ready!!

I'd power through. Regression can happen at 2 years or 4 years .Potty training unfortunately isn't linear. It is always messy though

Thanks for the advice on powering through, it's so hard to know what to do for the best.

I was just worried if we powered through it was accepting the accidents so she thought they were ok. All the advice says not to tell her off or make her feel bad for the accidents, but when it happens so frequently I'm constantly saying 'it's ok we will make the potty next time' etc.

Good to know you are coming out the other side.
