Potty training with development delay

My son is 3.5 and is no where near potty trained. He has seen a speech therapist who thinks he has a language delay although his talking has come along way the past few months. He is scared of using the toilet/potty and I think he tries to hold number 2 in rather than let it out. He clenches to keep it in. I just want to know if anyone has had the same problem? If we say use the toilet he just says no and gets upset. HV still involved with visits but hasnt really been helpful.

I have an almost 5 year old with SEN that I am currently toilet training. Don’t make it a big thing, let him see you using the toilet, show him videos on YouTube (there’s a Peppa Pig potty training video etc), get him some books about it to get him used to the idea and to show him what it’s all about. After doing all that we started sitting our son on the potty or toilet when he woke up and after food and drink at regular times during the day, just for a minute or two. If anything happened we made a huge fuss over him. You’ll start to notice a pattern of how often he goes and how long he can hold his bladder/bowels. Your son is still young at 3.5yrs try not to put pressure on yourself or him x
