I hadn't intended to potty train for another 6 months at least but he has been quite obsessive about the dogs poopoo / peepee and hours. He tells us if he's had a poo and also when he's peeing. So he seems very aware and has been for a few months now. Should we start the process and let him have a go? Or just leave him for now. Not even sure where to begin. Have got a potty book and Elmo goes potty dvd. Will also buy a potty for the house and let him explore that in the coming days / weeks.

Can he dress himself?

If so, have a go. If not don't bother. You'll just have a toddler permanently naked from the waist down.

Have a go. It’s so much easier than when they get older and can refuse because they like saying no.

You can absolutely try. As long as he can communicate that he needs the toilet then I don’t see why he needs to be able to dress himself as you’d help him in the toilet anyway.

The book “oh crap potty training” might be a useful read but basically lots of naked bum time so he realises that he is doing the toilet and then directing him to the toilet/ potty so he connects feeling the need to go with actually by going.

One of my twins brought me her older brother's potty aged 21 months, plonked it down, got undressed, produced a poo! We never looked back. It's worth a try 😀
