I desperately need help with potty training. My little boy is 3 years 4 months. He has just started showing real interest in potty training. He goes to nursery every day. He’s doing so well at nursery. Only having 1-2 accidents a day and he takes himself off to the toilet and pulls his pants down himself. The problems start when I pick him up. As soon as he sees me at the door he starts squirming like he needs to wee and starts playing up. We get home and he will not have a wee at all. He’s never done anything on the potty or toilet at home. Not even a drop.
I’m getting so upset that’s there’s something wrong as to why he just won’t do it at home. He cries because he needs a wee and runs about. He says he needs a cuddle when he needs to wee. He gets so worked up. I just don’t know what to do. I’m following all the usual advice. Not getting stressed, being very calm, we blow bubbles when he sat on the toilet to try relax him, he’s got a reward sticker chart that he gets to use when he sits on the potty or toilet because I want to reward him for just trying.
every bit of advice people have given me I have taken. I’m just at a loss and it’s so upsetting that he’s just not comfortable enough to have a wee at home. Even when he has a nappy on now he’s doing the same thing so there just seems to be no end to him acting like this.
He was late with his speech because he had fluid in his ears when he was younger so communication can be difficult sometimes, he doesn’t have the same understanding that other kids do his age. Trying to explain that it’s ok to let his wee out is very hard.
