Gradual approach?

My DS has just gone 2. He's showing an interest in the potty and mostly knows and can communicate when he's weeing and tells me when his nappy is wet / dirty. He's weed in the potty a few times when I've put him on it and told me when he wanted another wee a few minutes later. Nursery also put him on the potty after nappy changes.

However, his poo has always been soft and he poos almost in his sleep in early morning. I've never been able to change this. I can't see us potty training for poos anytime soon.

I'm also having another baby soon.

I was wondering about keeping DS in pull ups and just giving him very low pressure opportunities to go on the potty during the day without worrying about moving into pants or some wees going in the nappy for now.

Is this a reasonable approach or will it make proper potty training difficult when the time comes? He's clearly young for it at the moment but I want to give him to opportunity to go on the potty while he's showing interest.

He's not too young for it, but nighttime potty training Vs daytime are different and potty training in general will likely change his routine anyway. I highly recommend 'oh crap, potty training' book.
