My DD turned 2 in December and is in daycare full time. She had been exhibiting signs of wanting to potty train, daycare told us to start ASAP, and initially she did pretty well when we started at new year. Now though, she’s wetting underwear and leggings at daycare 5x a day. We got so fed up we put a nappy on her at the weekend at home, and lo and behold, no wetting. We’re baffled! She will pee in the potty at home with no underwear, but the minute there’s fabric on that bum, she will wet it. But not a nappy?! We can’t keep her naked because of daycare, we are very aware that we’re being inconsistent with clothes at home because we’re so fed up. We’ve tried bribery, begging, making it fun. Has anyone experienced this? How did you solve it if so?

If she is able to keep her nappy dry have you tried pull ups and just treat them like underwear might be a good stop gap until she gets used to it at nursery.

We did exactly as PP suggested - pull-ups, so when she wanted to use the potty she could, but it wasn’t a disaster if she didn’t.

We took them away after a few months and went back to pants, and she’s got it really quickly.

I think there’s a difference between them wanting to do it because they see the big kids doing it at daycare, and really truly being ready. Pull-ups bridge that gap.

This is so helpful!! Thank you so much! We will talk to daycare and give pull ups a shot I think

Waited until DD was actually ready at 3. 2 days bare bummed at home (summer) and dry since. There’s no reason for it to take weeks/months if they’re actually ready.

We used loose joggers/shorts before introducing underwear when training both of our children.

Saying that, the pull up idea may be better if she's reliably dry in them but just another idea
