Help! Toddler potty training regression

I potty trained my toddler at 22mo using the oh crap method. It went really well and after a couple of weeks started telling us when she needed to go. She's been about 2.5 months accident free and has been doing so well but last week as if almost overnight had about 4 farting accidents in one day. The next day pee accidents and so we thought she might have an upset stomach/GP thought it could be a UTI but the tests came back negative. We put it down to an upset stomach. Put a nappy on her for a couple of days but despite this she was still saying when she needed to pee and keeping dry - poos were still happening in the nappy. Eventually we took the nappy off and she was doing really well again but yesterday she had 2 more poo accidents - once in the garden and then once after dinner. Today after work she told me she needed a pee and held it until we got home (we were about 5 mins away) but then before bed had a poo accident! I honestly don't know what's going on. She knows to poo in the potty but why has she stopped telling me? What do you think? It makes no sense that she is telling me for pees and not poos. I'm also wondering if her molars are coming through and if she's about to go through a growth spurt because she is eating and sleeping soooo much at the moment. Any advice?

Putting a nappy back on will always set you back but to me you did the right thing. You don’t need to ‘start again’ but it might feel like that! Just go back to basics. I don’t know the oh crap method(!) but sounds like it worked for you. Good luck

Have you tried a sticker chart or reward system sometimes just need a little motivation to get back on track. Good luck

If shes pooing more than normal or its looser than normal I'd look at doing a food list to see if there are any trigger foods and consider asking for a sample test. If shes constipated and getting overflow....looks like runny watery pooh but is seepage around the blockage you need to work on resolving the constipation.

I thought constipation too. Google childhood constipation and overflow and have a look at the Eric website.

I potty trained DD early too, also using the Oh Crap method and am now three and a half years into her chronic constipation? For which she is receiving specialist help.

Ignore that stray question mark!

Farting accidents sound like overflow from constipation. Constipated causes wee accidents.

Why do so many use the oh crap method?

Rainallnight · 26/12/2021 20:08

Good question, @jannier. Lots and lots of people on here recommend it so that’s one reason. And it sells itself as a quick, no nonsense method which I guess is very appealing. And it’s written in a nice, brisk, confident style which might be helpful to people who feel a bit unsure.

I hugely regret using for DD and then didn’t with DS.

But it really isn't quick she advocates it over a few months if a child is truly ready potty training takes around a week to be reasonably dry
