Long car journey

We are in the middle of potty training and having mixed success. We started with pull ups but are now weaning DD off of these and moving to normal pants. The problem is we have a holiday coming up with a possible 5 hour + car journey. It's likely DD will fall asleep in the car. Is it best to put pull ups back on for the journey? I don't want to send her mixed messages as she thinks it's ok to toilet in pull ups...

Pants on under the pull up? That’s what I do, but I’ve only used pull ups for this situation and at night, so she doesn’t have that same association. Or I guess just puppy training pads all over the seat so it’s not a disaster when she inevitably wees!

If she's still having lots of accidents, I would put her in a pull-up for the journey. I don't think it will undermine everything else you're doing if it's for the journey only (we had pull-ups for long car journeys and for naps for a while).

If she's only having occasional accidents, I'd put her in potty training pants (like normal pants but with a bit of padding in the crotch, we used Bambino Mio ones) and use some kind of liner for the car seat.

Either way, put the potty in the footwell where she's sitting, so if she announces that she needs a wee and you can stop safely, you can grab her and the potty easily, and hopefully get her onto it in time.

We used a pull up in this situation, ds toilet trained at 3 but would wee In his sleep until almost 5 so if we thought he'd fall asleep he'd have a pull up on.

Some great suggestions here, thank you. She's been accident free today and journey is a week away so I'm hoping she'll be a bit more into her potty training stride!
