Bed time & potty training

DC will be 2 end of next month. We're a month into potty training. It's going very well. No accidents in the last 7 days. Will she tell us when she needs a wee/poo. Will take hers off to go etc.

She still sleeps in a cot at night. At bedtime the last few days, once she's in the cot (with nappy on) she's been saying she needs a wee/poo. I get her out. She doesn't go. Keeps saying she's not done yet. (She's very advanced speech wise.)

I have no idea how to deal with this.

Today got her out of the cot. Sat her on the potty for 5 mins. When I took her off the potty and put her back in bed she cried/screamed "I need a wee/poo"

She's not constipated.

She’s probably just using it as a sleep delaying tactic! Both of mine have done this.

Mine does similar.it’s difficult because she frequently does poo immediately before going to sleep and I end up changing her at 10pm when I realise 🤦‍♀️ But I have sometimes let her spend half an hour in the potty and she still hasn’t gone. Sometimes it is just a delay tactic. I now give her about 5 minutes to try, and just one attempt, then it’s in to bed and I say ‘just hold it til morning’ if she says she needs to go again (obviously she doesn’t she’s wearing a pull up, but I don’t want to set 5r expectation that she can just wee or poo in to her pants!)

I’m having this with car journeys during training, DD realising that she can get us to stop the car if she says she needs. DH is better than me at calling her bluff!

This is exactly what we did when our DC was doing this at around 27/28 months or so, also a month or two into being trained. We would always honour a request right before we left the room for bed but only once. She got bored of it eventually.

They all do this. They quickly suss it out as a sleep delaying tactic, because unfortunately does work. We praise them all day for asking to go so we can’t go back on that. It’s very sneaky Grin
