Poo problems!

We are a week in doing oh crap, roughly. I say that as I followed it religiously with DD1 but now with DD2 I am just doing what I can remember. And I can’t remember what it said to do about this! First 2 days poos went in the potty but since then have all been in the trousers. Pees are going pretty well, mostly in the potty or loo now and lots initiated by her. Annoyed with myself that I missed a poo this evening while making dinner, I knew one was coming but was so exhausted today that I just needed to be alone for a little while. Anyway! Should I go back to bare bum at home to help her nail the poo bit?

Do they have a roughly regular time for their poo?

Undersnatch · 21/06/2021 19:09

No not really. She didn’t go til late today because she had sweetcorn for tea last night, sorry tmi, but over recent days she has been quite loose poos while getting over a cold. So wondered if the sensation is less clear.

It could be that she's not got the sensation or it could be that she's not quite ready. Are you sticking her on the potty regularly? I used to plonk mine on fir things like their favourite TV show or when I was running the bath.

Yes pretty regularly, and with pees we are now at stage where I can trust her a bit more that if she refuses it’s usually because she doesn’t need. But feel today like I need to go back to the uber hypervigilant stage, unfortunately!

In the oh crap method they should be naked for all of stage 1 so for about a week. It’s normally to need a poo after a meal so I would be encouraging/bribing her to sit on the potty after a meal.

Oh really? See this is where I probably should have read the book again, don’t know where it is though. I thought bare bottom stage was just until most pee and poo were going in potty? Which was happening by the end of the second day so thought we were good to go with commando clothes on. Maybe rushed that but then. Although I thought it was important not to be bare bum too long so they don’t think they need it to be that way?

Anyhoo this morning she happened to be bare bum after a wee and then managed to catch a poo in potty so she was all jolly with that. And me! Will just hang in there I think, I’m really pleased with how she’s doing but just wasn’t sure why the poos keep ending up in the trousers when started off so well and pees fine.

This is also my understanding of the method, I’m sure it specifically days don’t spend too long naked and it definitely doesn’t specify time scales (it makes a big thing about the blocks lasting different lengths for different kids).

No advice I’m afraid but following as my daughter is similar. Most wees now in the potty/loo (with prompting) but all poos in pants or bedtime nappy 🤦‍♀️

How long have you been training modge? We are having a few more poo successes and sorry tmi but the poo accidents seem to happen more when it’s a softer poo. Firmer ones maybe it’s getting easier for her to recognise the sensation. I’m also finding more success on days I have the space to really focus on her and help her recognise the signs - like if she starts farting or sometimes does a little shiver when she’s trying to hold a poo in - then I can prompt her at the right time. We are doing bribery with buttons also and now they are only for poos since she’s got pees. And Pooland app has been good, worth a go to see if she likes it?

We are 5 weeks in I think. Since I posted we have had 2 more toilet poos and no more pants poos (a couple in overnight nappy first thing in the morning) so it feels like progress!! Yes I really look for signs too. I know the childminder does too though and it doesn’t always work - one day she said she sat her on the potty 3 times in half an hour as she was clearly trying to go in her pants - then she waited til the CM was busy with another child for 30 seconds and did it in her pants 🤦‍♀️

modgepodge · 04/07/2021 19:19

Yes I’ve heard of the pooland app, for some reason I was under the impression it was for kids who were scared of the potty/holding it in? Which I don’t think mine is, she just seems to prefer doing it in her pants (then proudly proclaiming ‘yuck, disgusting!’)

Undersnatch · 11/07/2021 17:14

How’s it going @modgepodge? Sorry missed your messages. I’m feeling a bit disheartened after a major poo cleanup on carpet Shock, feel like we were generally making progress for a while but continuing to have a poo accident most days. A few wee accidents too, when that seemed nailed. She does seem to withhold a bit though, you can see she needs sometimes but won’t go, has told me ‘I don’t like poos’. Feel like we need a period at home to focus on it again but that’s not easy to achieve in busy life!

I think my daughter has more wee accidents when she needs to poo. This is common with constipation I believe - my daughter isn’t conscripted but I’m guessing the same principle applies that a full bowel presses on the bladder.

We haven’t had a poo accident in a while, but she has pooed in her night nappy most days. Not many in the potty/toilet. Luckily I’m a teacher so another week and I do have time to stay home and refocus I guess.
