2.7 yo pooing in underwear

My daughter is mostly toilet trained. She is really good at weeing on the toilet at home and when we're out and stays dry. However she poos in her underwear if I don't catch her on time and she won't say she needs a poo. But if her bottom half is naked, she will run to the toilet, sit on it and poo all by herself. I dont understand it haha! I can't just leave her half naked all the time. How do I get her to learn that she doesn't just poo in her underwear?

Mine was the same at this age. All I could do was encourage her and keep telling her poos were for the toilet. I think getting her to help me clean up (empty the poo into the toilet and rinse knickers in the bath before having a wash) helped but It took about six weeks but she got there in the end. She’s so stubborn she just had to make the decision to do it herself.

Good luck. I know it feels like it will be forever but she will get there in the end and it will all be a distant memory one day! In the mean time deep breaths and the this will pass mantra on repeat. FlowersWineCake

Give it time, OP. She'll work it out Flowers

It’ll take time, I think most go through this stage. I used to ask “do you need a poo?” and take her at times I thought she may need to go. Sometimes she did, sometimes she didn’t!

It might help as well to talk about what it feels like when she needs a poo, does she feel it in her tummy, can she feel it in her bottom when she needs to go. Also, reward and praise when she does one in the toilet. I potty trained mine entirely on chocolate buttons Blush

Yup, juts time. Pooping standing up is a more 'natural' and easier position- takes a bit of time to accept it has to be done on a toilet.

It's because kids learn to poo in their nappies and are used to that sensation. Therefore she is comfortable pooing in her pants because it is a similar feeling to pooing in a nappy. She will get there.
