I need a little help,
My little one is nearly 3 and we have tried potty training in the past but it didn’t work out because I think we tried a bit too early.

Now, we have tried it as little ticks all the boxes that she’s ready.
She has 2 potties and she chooses which one she uses, she only wears pants during the day, we are using positive reinforcement during movements and non movements and also accidents - telling her “oops you’ve had a pee, I will clean it up and next time we will do the pee in the potty” etc - you can tell ive read all the books.

However, little does her little potty dance - when I want her to sit on it - nope! Refuses etc and if she ever does a pee, she panics as soon as it starts and bounces off.
We had a successful poo yesterday which surprised me as there was very little hassle.

However, when she doesn’t need to use the potty, she happily sits on it for ages doing nothing.

Anyone else’s child do this and if so, any tips to entice little to sit on the potty and not panic when she pee’s?

We have tried the toilet too, using all the tricks but she loathes it so if she’s happy to sit on the potty, I’ll take that as a win for now.

It may be better to avoid having her sit on the potty for long periods when she doesn't need to go. You want her to learn the sensation of needing to pee and associate that with going to the potty, sitting down and releasing. If the potty is somewhere she likes to sit to chill out she might be getting confused. So maybe if she's been sitting there for a minute ask her to get up and check if she's done anything, if not tell her she can try again later. You could combine this with some books and videos to reinforce what the potty is for, and take her to the toilet with you and have her sit on her potty while you pee.

Thanks so much IceandIndigo,
I think you are definitely correctly. She seems happy enough to sit on the potty and watch tv or listen to music.
We have tried all the songs, videos and books to help her understand what is happening. She’s a very intelligent little girl but she doesn’t seem to be connecting the dots with this one 😅

However, this week, I had to take a little break from potty training due to being quite unwell, but she seems to be becoming more irritated with the feeling of wearing a dirty/wet nappy when she goes to the toilet so she seems more keen on not feeling that ways. We are restarting potty training tomorrow and I will try your suggestion of having it beside the toilet to see if it can help motivate her to try it at the same time.

At this stage, I will try anything 😅 xx

Will it just click? Short answer - yes. Eventually 😁

It does, but all my boys were almost 4 before it did. You can go back to nappies and try later if you need to.
