3.5 stool withholding - ERIC

Hi I was hoping someone could give me some advice as it’s near enough impossible to actually speak with someone at ERIC!

We’ve been toilet training my son since a hsa turned 3 - and it’s been a real battle he doesn’t tell us when he needs to go and has multiple
Poo accidents in his pants.

When I spoke with ERIC month ago they suggested disinfection process which we did - but seems like when we reduced the dose for maintenance he was still having a few poo accidents.

We’ve tried to keep a structure for him to go ie before bed, after breakfast, lunch and dinner etc but it doesn’t seem to be getting any better and just at the point of not knowing why to do. He only likes to sit on the toilet if he’s got a screen and we struggle to get him on...

Any help would be really great thank you!!

Is he under the continence clinic? Could they help you develop a plan? I also have had no success with ERIC (though their online resources are good) after calling them about 20 times in the past two weeks! I was able to speak to a Pediatric Specialist Nurse via the Bowel and Bladder UK helpline, I left a message and she called back the next day and was very helpful.

I went through this with my 3 year old daughter and it completely took over our life. No amount of rewards, praise or bribary worked (bribery works 100% for everything else with her) eventually got on movicol and surprise didn't work. Made her poo obviously but then she regressed back into nappies and it caused a whole new issue with her. We are just now coming out the other side and I was sure it would last for years, this is an old thread but if anyone is looking for advice maybe I could offer some help 😊 x

My just turned 3 year old is just like this. He’s been fully wee trained since he was just two but the poos are a bloody nightmare! He holds and holds it until a tiny rabbit dropping forces it’s way out. We sometimes have this up to 20 times a day. He’s meant to be starting pre school in January but I’m not sure how he’s going to manage. We’ve tried movicol which he refuses in whatever I try and hide it in. We’ve had a little success with prune baby food pouches but he seems to have forgotten how to actually push the poo out. It’s sometimes just sat there in the entrance to his anus and he can’t squeeze it out like he’s forgotten how to do it. I don’t know what to do anymore!

DS 4y4m still soiling his pants. We are having to follow him around so we know when/where it's happening. Started toilet training end of July. More or less runs off to do a pee when he needs, but we just can't crack this no2 business.
