I have recently started potty training my son and it is going nowhere. I have set up a potty training seat in the toilet and a portable potty in the living room. I let him run around nappy free all day (expect during nap). He will pee/poo where ever he is at the moment. I have tried stopping him midway and moving him to the potty. He will happily sit there but does nothing. I know when he is going to have a poo coz he hides under the table. When I offer to move him to the potty, he says no. He is quiet a determined child and his default answer to any question is no. His nursery is also trying but he just sits on the potty and does nothing. I have been trying for about a month. Should I just give up and try later?

I've been on and off trying potty training with my little one for a while.

The best tip that worked for us that his nursery suggested was to put pants on him and a pull up nappy over the top to begin with.

We did that for around a week, he then wouldn't poo in the pants and used the potty , he would still do wees in the pants

Then we stopped the nappy on top of the pants he would hold everything then and went through a week of having to more or less bribe him to sit on the potty
He had a lot of accidents at nursery but not really at home - he just wouldn't go until he was really urgent

We got a peppa pig potty training sticker chart which helped and he started going to the potty himself

We are now about a month since we started and he goes to the potty himself for both wee and poo , he has pull up on at night but hasn't weed in it for week he's got up in the night to use the potty instead

It was long going but he got there eventually and he's pants all day pull up at night just in case

He had no accidents last week at home or nursery

He turned 3 on the 1st March

That sounds like a good idea. Will try it out. Thank you :)
