Potty training a 20 month old?!

My little one is young, I know, but is showing all the signs she’s ready for potty training. This includes knowing when she’s been to the toilet (and coming to us asking for her nappy changed), and also hiding when going to toilet so she can do it in private.

Despite showing positive signs we have tried twice to introduce potty training but both times she seems wary of the potty. The first time she kept it in for a long time and then had an accident and the second time she hid to go to the toilet but still didn’t use the potty.

Have I misunderstood the signs and she actually isn’t ready? Does anyone have any tips of how to demonstrate the potty isn’t something to be worried about. I don’t want to start potty training early if it’s going to cause her problems in the long run.

For info despite being a very confident, outgoing toddler she has always hesitated slightly when trying a new skill such as crawling, walking etc. She tends to hesitate and then just one day go for it which has worked well for most of the skills a toddler needs to acquire but is hard to practice with potty training.

My son was potty trained by 19 months do I don’t think it’s early at all.
Bloody marketing/research by nappy companies has made people think that.
Keep the potty out all the time and let her be naked. Sit her in it to play/read etc.
I did that from an early age so he was used to it.
She will get used to it.
