Potty training

My LO is 2.5 years and we started potty training today. He has no problem with going on the potty or toilet but I am having to place him on there every 30 mins or so as he isn’t talking yet so it’s kind of guess work for me. Has anyone potty trained their LO’s whilst they are not talking yet? Should I wait until he is talking because I’m worried about when we do start to go out again h won’t be able to tell me he needs a wee etc. It won’t be as easy to put him on the toilet. Hope any of that makes sense

Create a sign for it, reinforce it each time he goes.

Yes wait until they can speak otherwise it’s endless guess work for you. Speaking and dry through naps were the signs for me to start. Does he speak at all at 2.5? We trained DD at 2yrs 4 months and I wouldn’t say she was an advance talker at all but could answer yes and no and say toilet

Edit to add it’s the makaton sign for toilet

He says yes and no, so I’m always asking “do you need a wee” and he will tell me but he can’t say toilet or I need a wee
