DD is almost 3.5 and we have unsuccessfully been trying to potty train her for a while. Honestly, I don't think she knows when she needs yet. We will ask her does she need and she will say no only to then wet herself a minute or so later. I also don't think she recognises when she is hungry or full and I've read these can be linked.

So far we have tried reward charts, timers, having a potty in the room, special seat for the toilet, potty training books. But nothing seems to work, so I just don't know whether it's worth trying something else?

Now isolating for 2 weeks due to being close contacts of a positive case so I feel like this would be such a good opportunity to really go for it, but will it work if she just genuinely doesn't know when she needs? Any help would be appreciated!

I don’t know if you have tried this tactic but with my lo I managed to do it by getting him to sit on the potty for prolonged periods - so sat him in front of the tv and kept giving him water, he was quite happy sat here with me and then when he inevitably did a wee we made such a fuss jumping about and overly praising him, we showed him the wee in the potty and at first he just thought we had lost the plot but after doing this several times he made the connection - wee in potty meant praise and a reaction which he enjoyed.

Maybe she's just not ready. dS didn't until he was about 3.5 and then just decided he was going to. Did it in a week. DD decided much earlier.

You'll drive yourself mad trying before she's ready. DS I tried and failed many times until he decided he was ready.

Talk to her about big girl pants and just ask her every week or so if she wants to try maybe?

Do you have hard flooring? Maybe go a few days with no clothing on the lower half - if she can't hold it that way then you can be sure she isn't ready
